Archery Shooting Tips

Archery is an age old art. It is now a renowned sport activity. Here are some tips which can help the new learners to practice the sport or the art of archery.

Equipment for archery

The basic Equipment for archery are bow and arrow. One can find a variety of bow and arrow materials. Generally the bows are made up of fiber or wood. The modern bows are made light weight. However some players prefer heavy weight bows for better stability. The recoil force is also lowered in a heavy bow. The arrows are available in a wide range of materials. These are made up of carbon fiber, aluminum alloy or wood. The light weight arrows acquire faster speed after they are shot. The carbon and alloy arrows are the lightest of all.

Along with this the archer must wear protective covering for his arms, legs and eyes. This will avoid accidental injury by the arrow shooting.

Basic shooting techniques

When the archer prepares for the shoot, he closes one eye to view the target perfectly. The open eye is called as the dominant eye. The bow is placed in the hand opposite to this dominant eye. Sometimes the archers are advised to hold the bow in the hand of dominant eye. However this depends on the archer's comfort level. The arrow is drawn with the string or drawing hand opposite to the bow hand. The arrow is shot by stretching the arrow on the bow string and it is released from the stretched position. The aiming can be perfected only after enough practice.

Brief description

Before releasing the arrow the archer first stands in a correct posture. The body should be straight and perpendicular to the target place. The archer stands feet wide apart with a shoulder distance between them. The arrow is loaded on the bow by holding the bow downwards. Then it is held tightly with the bow hand on the tip end. The drawing hand stretches the arrow on the string. The index finger of the bow hand is placed over the arrow.

Once the posture is made perfect the archer aims his sight on the target. The bow is moved, left right or up and down according to the position of the target. Finally the arrow is released from the bow.

Quick Tip #1

One of the most important factors that can make you a good archer is your level of concentration you have and the exact moment to release the arrow at the target. If you work on your concentration and release your success rate will go way up.

Quick Tip #2

Choose your bow size and style by what you are using it for not how it looks. If you're a bird or rabbit hunter you're going to want a lighter more accurate bow but if you're just shooting targets something larger and heavier that can shoot a good distance will do the job.
