Archery Basics

Responsibility as an archer

A person should use and maintain his bow responsibly, effectively and safely. He should store the equipment safely and carry and use the arrows of different types. He should also shoot constantly well and within his effective range, both in practice and in the field too. He should also safely and effectively use a mask and an elevated stand while practicing or shooting his arrows.

Don't do's in archery

The person or the archer must always use a bow whenever he fires an arrow and treat the bows and the arrows like he would a loaded firearm. He should not be careless with the broad heads. He should carry broad heads covered and keep them always pointed in a safe direction. Further, the person should always check his bows and arrows for any crack or separations. If he is using a stand, he can always strap in as soon as he gets into the stand.

Further he should always use a hauling line to hoist it up after he has safely strapped in. He should also be sure of his target and also be sure of what lies beyond it. The person should know his bow and arrow and know the concept and technique of using the bow string and even get acquainted with the styles of archery.

Crossbows are also a type of arrow and bow which are used for shooting. They are used for hunting in many states. Before using the same, the person has to know the technique of shooting any thing with it.

The Do's in archery

The person should store and carry his arrows in a secure fashion and keep the points sharp to be effective. One should replace broad heads or replace them after shooting in the field.

While handling the bow, one should draw a stance and keep his wrist straight holding the bow loosely. Also he should nock the arrow with the cock feather up-out and away from the bow. Then he should release the arrow with a steady motion. He should also use finger gloves, releases, tabs and such trigger devices. Thus, he should always use the arm and finger protection.

Quick Tip #1

One of the most important factors that can make you a good archer is your level of concentration you have and the exact moment to release the arrow at the target. If you work on your concentration and release your success rate will go way up.

Quick Tip #2

Choose your bow size and style by what you are using it for not how it looks. If you're a bird or rabbit hunter you're going to want a lighter more accurate bow but if you're just shooting targets something larger and heavier that can shoot a good distance will do the job.
